However, Coggins racially-motivated cold case murder made lots of headlines for several years. It was only solved after a decade of a long search.

Professionally, Timothy was one of the county’s few Black officers. He was a friend to Jesse Gates, a former Spalding County sheriff’s deputy.

Moreover, Coggins was reportedly dating a white woman before he died.

The cop was only 23 years old at the time of his death. Sadly, the loyal police officer was a victim of a brutal murder.

Timothy Coggins Murder Mystery Explained: What Were His Injuries?

Timothy Coggins and his friend Jesse Gates had been friends for a long time.

One day the two friends rode to a dance club outside of town called People’s Choice. It was then when Coggins never got back again.

He was found brutally murdered in an open area in Sunnyside, Georgia.

The location as reported by the police was a well-known gathering place for drug deals and parties.

Coggins had suffered multiple injuries; he was discovered with stab wounds. Forensic revealed, that he was heavily tortured before he died.

Their report stated that the victim had seven stab wounds to the front of his chest. Likewise, there were cross-cuts across his chest and back.

It was difficult for even the forensic to identify the dead body. It was brutally murdered and disfigured.

Autopsy also showed that he was left bled out until he took his last breath behind a pile of wood.

He died as a result of multiple forms of trauma, according to the sheriff’s office.

Who Killed Timothy Coggins?

Five people were arrested for killing 23-year-old Timothy Coggins. It was after 30 years in the year 2017, the case was actually solved.

Initially, the search for killers went cold and it was reopening of the case that led to further findings.

However, it was revealed that Frankie Gebhardt, Bill Moore Sr., Sandra Bunn,  Lamar Bunn, and Gregory Huffman were the killers.

Reports suggest Huffman was a detention officer with the sheriff’s office.  Sandra and Lamar Bunn worked for the Milner Police Department.

The whole investigation had revealed that the crime was racially motivated. It is unclear when the killers will be arraigned.
