Julianna Margulies said that she was on the verge of accepting a job offer to return to ER for a four-episode storyline set in Hawaii during the 2005–2006 season in an interview with tvguide.com in August 2006. But in the end, she changed her mind at the last moment.
She thanked ER executive producer John Wells and said she liked how frequently the show invited her back, but she turned down the invitation. Margulies did, though, accept an invitation to return to ER for one episode during the show’s 15th and final season.
Margulies talked about her comeback to ER in a 2013 interview, describing how she called George Clooney, her former co-star, and made a deal that if he agreed to return, she would as well.
